I’m back on Substack now
If you subscribed to me here on the first go, your subscription was paused while I got my shit together. If you subscribed in the last year, your subscription has been shifted here. This is a quick explanation of what’s happening - you may ignore it if you like.
Why I’m back on the stack
I loved Substack when I started in 2023. I did my best writing and had some of the most rewarding conversations here. Then, life happened. I hit pause on writing and subscriptions and moved Wednesday Wisdom back to my website/ marketing email for a while to figure it out later. Now, it’s later.
I’m on a sabbatical from client work and working on other writing projects, so this is the ideal time to return.
Substack is the least annoying place to just… write. Every other option involves creating free stuff for the social media content farm and/or paying for software, segmenting innocent subscribers into monetisable containers, and messing around with admin. And I am so over admin. Importantly, I feel permission to be a more genuine, less optimised person and writer on Substack.
Since I came back, I’ve noticed it’s even better than when I left. There are some clever people here, writing some great stuff. I’m hopeful about it, but also pragmatic. I invested in building a community of over 40,000 people on LinkedIn because it felt like a place away from the usual fuckery. Unfortunately, the bots and bros seem to have won over there now. The good news is, with Substack, you take your community with you when you go. So, I’m not letting the enshittification of LinkedIn hold back my investment in Substack.
What to expect from Substack 2.0
I will continue to write my free content and produce pieces for paid subscribers. I’m going to experiment with a few different options, but you can rely on the following:
Wednesday Wisdom: Weekly ideas, insights, and clarity since 2018.
Reading Journal: A monthly recap of the books I’m reading and what I think about them.
Current Fad: Periodic essays and rants. For an example, here’s a 2023 piece on bias in AI.
Friday Flurry #11: AI content is just a less nuanced version of our existing bullshit.
Welcome to Friday Flurry. These posts, which are a mixed bag of what I’m doing, reading and thinking about, are exclusively for paid subscribers. If you’re a regular reader, and you enjoy my writing, become a paid subscriber.
Questions you might have
Will I still get Wednesday Wisdom?
Yes, it will just be coming through Substack again. You will not notice the difference if you read WW in your email. If you realise your newsletter has gone to spam, ‘white-list’ me by marking it as ‘not spam.’
Do I have to read the other stuff?
Nope. If you’re here for the Wednesday Wisdom and don’t care what I’m reading or thinking about, that’s fine, too. Wednesday Wisdom is a separate section, so it will be easy to refine your subscription.
Where can I find the old newsletters and articles?
For now, they’re all still on my website. Moving them is annoying and probably not worth it. For best results, search in your email inbox with my name and the keyword of the one you want.
Will I have to pay?
No, but some content will be paywalled. You will always get Wednesday Wisdom for free.
If you’ve been reading my content for a while and find it valuable, you might want to become a paid subscriber to say chur for the effort.
TL;DR: I’m back on Substack because it’s better than other places, and helps me to write more, better, and more easily. Bam.
See you on Wednesday,
AM
